Cabinet Listens to Report on Electricity Sector and Measures Taken for Reducing Operation Shortfall

Khartoum: In its regular meeting on Thursday 25 January 2018 Chaired by General psc . Bakri Hassan Salih , First Vice President of the Republic ,Prime Minister, The Minister of Water Resources Irrigation & Electricity, Mutaz Mousa presented a report on electricity sectors and the measures taken to reduce the shortfall in the operation cost , elaborating that the production cost amounts to 160 piaster per one megawatt while the average of sale price is 32 piaster for a megawatt  and by this the operation cost was 12.1 billion Sudanese pounds while the sales are 4.2 billion Sudanese pounds with a deficiency of 7.9 billion Sudanese pounds per year. Now the subsidy declined down to 4.4 billion Sudanese pounds in conformity with remedies  that target continuation of the subsidy to the residential sector while in the agricultural sector no Sudanese farm was affected by the decision despite this the price of poultry chicken increased without objective justifications .

In the industrial sector it was confirmed that electricity price was not the factor that influenced the final product at the rates that occurred in the market price.

In a related development , Minister of Petroleum Abdulrahman Osman presented a briefing on the discoveries made in Rawat field whereby three new wells were added , the first one started production at a rate of 22 thousands barrels per day which is a good tidings of a big development in petroleum production by Sudanese expertise of engineers and technician and workers at the national wells.
