Cabinet launches environmental and social impact guidelines

Acting Minister of Cabinet Affairs Osman Hussein Osman launched today the Environmental and Social Impact Guidelines, which was prepared by the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, in the presence of a number of relevant ministers.

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs explained that the environmental impact guidelines is aimed at helping companies and project owners to prepare environmental impact studies in a scientific way so that they can carry out their activities without environmental damage.

The Minister called on all ministries and institutions to benefit from the environmental guidelines when planning and implementing projects.

Osman affirmed that the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs would adopt all recommendations that will be made by experts and specialists in the field of environment to develop the guidelines.

For her part, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed said that development was not complete without taking into account the environmental impacts of projects.

She added that one of the benefits of the environmental impact guidelines was promoting the optimal use of resources and excluding projects with dangerous environmental impacts, noting that it also highlights the need to involve communities and individuals likely to be affected by planned projects.
