The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, Monday chaired a meeting of the higher committee for following up the file of Renaissance Dam, in the presence of the Ministers of the Cabinet Affairs, Justice and Irrigation and Water Resources and the Directors of the General Intelligence Service and the Military Intelligence and members of the committee.
The meeting discussed progress of the Renaissance Dam negotiations and the consultations that took place in the past period between the different parties.
The meeting also discussed alternative options due to the stalled tripartite negotiations that took place during the past six months. The meeting also reviewed the dangers of Ethiopia start to the second filling of the Renaissance Dam in next July without reaching an agreement and its impact on the safety of the operation of the Rossaires Dam and other water facilities in the country.
The meeting stressed that Sudan will not accept imposition of a fait accompli policy and threatening the safety of 20 million Sudanese citizens whose life depends on the Blue Nile.
The meeting affirmed Sudan firm position based on the necessity of reaching a binding legal agreement on the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam that preserves the interests of the three parties.
