The Economic Development Sector reviews a report on reducing the use of mercury in mining operations

Economic Development Sector of the Council of Ministers reviewed on its meeting today Wednesday 3 April 2019, headed by Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Mr. Magdi Hassan Yassen, a report on the efforts of the Ministry of Minerals to reduce the use of mercury in mining operations, this report comes within the framework of the State's concern to protect human and the environment from the negative emissions of mercury in the extraction of gold, as well as the fulfillment of Sudan's obligations towards international conventions aimed at protecting the environment
 
The meeting emphasized the need to spread awareness and guidance on the health and environmental risks associated with mining operations in the traditional sector, and working to provide alternative technologies with global experiences to reduce the use of mercury in the mining sector, it also emphasized the completion of the Minimata Convention approval process, which limits the use of mercury added to industrial products and processes
