Social and Cultural Development Sector authorizes the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention of 1954
The Social and Cultural Development Sector of the Council of Ministers authorized today Wednesday 27 March 2019, headed by Minister of Education Mr. Al-Khair Al-Noor Al-Mobarak, the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention regarding to the Protection of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict and the Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage of 2001
The aim of the Protocol is to protect cultural property in the event of an armed conflict and to control the progress of aggressive operations that arise between the signatory parties, it also helps Sudan to claim its properties that have been illegally exported and the participation of the international community in the preservation and recovery of cultural property from theft and smuggling and work to recover them
The Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage aims at cooperation between the signatory countries to protect heritage and not exploit the monuments commercial exploitation, which requires the use of special scientific techniques and a high degree of professional specialization
The sector recommended raising awareness among citizens about the value of heritage to preserve it and include underwater heritage in educational curricula as well as increasing the number of regular forces working in the protection of the national heritage
