The Council of Ministers authorizes the report of the pharmaceutical industry reality and visions of the future
The Cabinet at its regular meeting on Sunday 25 November 2018 chaired by Mutaz Moussa Abdullah, Prime Minister, issued a report on the pharmaceutical industries (reality and visions of the future) presented by the Minister of State at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Dr. Abdul Rahman Youssef pointed out the beginning of the pharmaceutical industries in Sudan since 1961. The number of pharmaceutical establishments in the field of medicines increased from 7 to 34 in 2018. The number of workers in this sector is 4800 workers. The coverage rate is about 30% The national plan for the pharmaceutical industry aims to produce (80%) of the list of essential drugs according to the strategic plan by 2020.
The Council of Ministers stressed the need to provide foreign exchange and establish a portfolio of the Central Bank of Sudan to finance the inputs of production for the pharmaceutical industries, the importance of contracting industrialization of medicines through partnership with the private sector (national and foreign) and the establishment of a joint mechanism comprising ministries of industry, health, . The Council of Ministers directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to open horizons for the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in the African and neighboring countries.
