Cabinet Reviews Report of Summer Agricultural Season

The cabinet has held its regular meeting today 30/September/2018 at the city of Wad Medani the capital city of Gezira State  chaired by Prime Minister Mutaz Mousa Abdalla.
The Prime Minister greeted at the outset of the meeting the People of Gezira State highlighting the importance of time and venue as the country is set for the harvest of the summer season crops and preparing for the winter season cultivation in the framework of general policy that aims at expanding exports whereby Gezira state is on the lead in the implementation of the program.
Meanwhile Gezira Sate Governor Mohamed Tahir Eila has affirmed the same concepts confirming the commitment of the state to work towards  realizing the wishes and aspiration of the people of Sudan in decent life via increasing production and productivity expressing his personal and the pleasure of the people of the state in convening the first cabinet session  after its reshuffle in Gezira state
Meanwhile Minister of Agriculture & Forestry Eng. Hassabalnabi Mousa presented a report on the efforts of preparation for the winter season noting that the targeted areas of cultivation during the season amounts to 1.7 million acres of which 700 acres are allocated for wheat . 460 thousand acres for fodders, 770 thousands tons of wheat produce and 6.9 million tons of fodders.
The plan comprises producing considerable amounts of horse beans , sunflower, onion and potato.
The report affirmed completion of the procedures of providing production inputs , like fertilizers , fuel , pesticides and sacks.
Regarding preparation for the summer season  cultivation the report affirmed increase  the  cultivated by a percentage of 25% up from that of last year whereby a production of 5.5 million tons of sorghum is expected  as well as 3.1 million tons of groundnuts, 2.4 million of millet and 1.9 million tons of sesame
The honorable Cabinet expressed satisfaction over what was achieved this year by the blessing of Almighty Allah  followed by a scientific and practical effort exerted by the state and the farmers.
The cabinet further affirmed continuing its endeavor towards realizing bigger increase in production and productivity throughout the coming years whereby the prime minister announced  his encouragement of the farmers by announcing the referral purchasing price of a sack of wheat at 1800 Sudanese pounds per a sack whereby the state intervene to purchase all the produce in case the price declines while  if the price rises the farmer has the right to sell at the higher price
He also affirmed that the ministry of finance and economic planning and the bank of Sudan will present export policies tomorrow in Khartoum including all commodities except petroleum products hoping these policies would be  incentivizing exports  to bring about the recovery of balance of payment and supports the returns from foreign currency .
The manager of the Sudanese Agricultural bank announced that he has concluded a contract with Belaruse  towards establishing 17 news silos with a storage capacity of one million tons to meet the domestic needs and the expected exports requirements.
The prime minister directed establishing soil test laboratories in the eastern state for the purposes of determining the nature of fertilizers needed by the soil in a manner that assist increasing acre productivity.
Governor of Bank if Sudan Dr. Mohamed Kheir Al Zubeir affirmed their readiness to provide the required cash for summer season harvest and preparation for winter season
He outlined that the Bank of Sudan has issued a decision raising micro-financing amount  from 50 thousand Sudanese pounds up to 100  thousand Sudanese pounds in conformity with the studies that confirm the size of the project need.
The honorable cabinet demanded the Ministry of Industry & Commerce to present an integrated report on the sequence of the value in exporting cotton and textile to the cabinet to decide on them.
The cabinet decided forming a high level mechanism chaired by the prime minister for following up the constraints of the summer and winter seasons and the ministerial leadership of agriculture and irrigation are to apply top down to the field follow up and tackle the outstanding issues on time
